Candidate for Mayor - Zane K. Woolstenhulme

Headshot of Mayoral Candidate Zane K. Woolstenhulme

RE-ELECT MAYOR ZANE K. WOOLSTENHULME

Serving as the mayor of Oakley over the past few years has been a great privilege. With the support of the Oakley City Council and our dedicated partners, we have made several unique and significant improvements for the community, including:

NEW WELL--A newly constructed and fully funded well now stands as a vital resource, ensuring the community has access to clean water for generations to come. This development will significantly enhance the quality of life and promote better health for all residents.

OPEN SPACE AND TRAILS--A significant expansion of dedicated open space to protect the city watershed and preserve the Weber River corridor, along with expansion of the Weber River Pathway trail system, all of which can be enjoyed by citizens and visitors in perpetuity.

INCREASED LAW ENFORCEMENT--Implementing dedicated law enforcement support in cooperation with the Summit County Sheriff.

MORE RECREATION--Construction of a new bike park, pickleball courts, basketball and tennis court and improvements to the rodeo grounds, made possible by the generous contributions of labor and funds from our community partners, at minimal cost to the city.  This is a testament to our collective efforts and our investment in the physical and emotional well being of our community.

IMPROVED RODEO AND A LOOK TO THE FUTURE--The increased investment in the Oakley Rodeo and Celebration has generated record-breaking income and elevated the city's profile.  A master plan is currently being developed for potential upgrades to the rodeo complex and nearby facilities.

CITY CENTER--Progress is being made on the development of the city center, which aims to enhance the village atmosphere, grow the city’s tax base, and protect Oakley’s gathering spots, such as the post office, grocery store, and green spaces. This project provides an essential economic foundation for the inevitable future growth of the community.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PLAN--A capital improvements plan is being developed to assess the condition and capacity of the existing water and sewer infrastructure. This plan will create a roadmap for maintenance and necessary upgrades to these systems, ensuring that new developments contribute their fair share.

As a long-time member of this community with my family's history connected to Oakley, I have a deep passion for our town and a strong desire to serve. In addition to my role as mayor, I have dedicated over 20 years to the Oakley City Planning Commission. I have played a key role in updating the city's General Plan and Development Code, focusing on promoting sustainable growth, preserving agricultural rights, and encouraging open spaces and trails while respecting individual property rights.

It was my privilege to serve on the board of the Mountainlands Community Housing Trust for nearly ten years. During that time, the organization was instrumental in developing affordable housing units in Oakley and the surrounding communities. Attainable housing continues to be one of the most critical challenges our city faces today, and it will be a priority in my next administration.

For the past 12 years, I have served as the business administrator for Ogden School District, accumulating nearly 40 years of leadership experience in public administration. This background has equipped me with extensive expertise in managing government budgets, personnel, and public facilities and makes me uniquely qualified to manage the responsibilities of mayor.  I take my responsibility as a steward of the public trust seriously and strive to manage resources wisely.

Oakley has consistently led in anticipating and managing future growth, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability and long-term planning. I will work diligently to uphold my commitment to Reverence the Past, Embrace Today, and Prepare for Tomorrow.

I kindly ask for your continued support in November as I seek re-election as mayor of Oakley. With proven leadership today, I am committed to bringing hope for a brighter tomorrow for our amazing city.
